Swimsuit Shoot with Adela Guerra

On a beautiful February morning in Miami, model Adela Guerra and I set out to make pics of swimwear from one of her clients. She brought plenty of suits to choose from. We know we could not photograph them all so we chose three. Most shots were lit by ambient and one off-camera speed light on a light stand.

I chose this location specifically because of the variety of backdrops: mangroves (a type of tree), a large two-story shelter made entirely out of large blocks of coral, and water. I did not want the typical beach shot…nothing wrong with that but I wanted a more ‘unique’ setting.

This shot was also a way to test my new camera system: the micro four-thirds camera, the Panasonic Lumix GH4 and lenses: Panasonic 35-100 mm F2.8 (equivalent to a 70-200mm) zoom and the Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 (equivalent to the 24-70mm). I switched form the Canon system that I’ve used for the past 15 years. The reason for the switch was that an old shoulder injury had reappeared and it was very difficult for me to work and travel with that system…it weighs twice as much as the Panasonic and it’s twice the size. It got to a point where i could not even lift the camera when I shot with my lens of choice for these type of shots – the 70-200mm. I had shoulder surgery and decided to sell the Canon and all the lenses. In a later post I will tell you my final thoughts of the switch.
